My name is James Grover. I've been in technology for over 20 years. I started from the very bottom as a simple Computer Operator running mainframe systems. In my case it was an IBM S390. On paper, that sounded great. But in reality, I was just the person typing in the commands as the Computer Operator III relayed them. Fast forward to today. I am the Director of Software Engineering and Systems Development for a publicly traded company. It's taken some time to get here. There were a lot of twists and turns along the way. Perhaps, I haven't seen everything. But, I have seen and experienced a lot.
The idea behind Digital Decision Makers was to make myself accessible. The IT world today is very different than 20 years ago. The internet seemingly has every answer to every question. But, it's difficult to distinguish good answers from a bad answers -- or who is providing the information. How much would I have benefitted as an engineer if I had access to someone in leadership? Whenever people find out what I do, they always follow up with questions about technology. Wouldn't it be a good idea to share those thoughts with everyone?
IT is a vast community. But, its a small world. Relationships are the key to success in any industry. When introducing yourself, you can hand someone your business card, resume, social media sites and so forth. That's the standard these days. You can build contacts that way. But, do you build relationships? As a leader in the IT sector, I've found that candidates interview me as much as I interview them. How much do you really know someone from an hour interview? Come get to know me on Digital Decision Makers. Perhaps our paths will cross.
Innovation isn't just a buzzword for technology. Every person in every industry can innovate. They can innovate the way they think, work, produce and more. But, no one talks about innovative managers. They exist. In order to innovate, you must be an agent of 'change' -- always looking for the best performance, efficiency, or balance. A visionary can see the direction. While, an innovator sees the direction, then enacts change to accomplish those goals. I am an innovator. Be an innovator.
